Biobanks play a vital role in advancing global science. They are an essential partner for research in environmental conservation, human disease, microbiology, pharmaceutical development, reproductive science and agriculture for innovation and development on a global scale.

VISION:
Raise awareness of the purpose, role and impact of biobanking on a global scale, the initiative is planned to ensure that the word ‘biobank’ becomes a well-recognised and understood term across all walks of life. 

OBJECTIVE:
To create a harmonized strategy to foster and strengthen global Advocacy, Appreciation and Awareness for the role that biobanks and biorepositories play worldwide.

Aims:

  • Raise global awareness of the role and breath of biobanking
  • Demonstrate the global presence of biobanking, showcasing geographic diversity
  • Illustrate the diversity of biobanking professionals and the roles that they play
  • Strengthen ties with global biobanking communities
  • Work with biobankers worldwide to sponsor Global Biobanking Awareness Week 2026

The Global Biobank Awareness Task Force lead by Cassandra Griffin and Deb Leiolani Garcia seeks interested parties who want to join the TF in developing marketing and educational materials and tools that are:
